A confidential space to explore the thoughts, feelings and challenges in your life
Welcome, and thank you for visiting Discovery Therapy. My name is Mark Rowden and I am a counsellor providing both short- and long-term counselling to adult individuals in-person from premises in Guildford. I also offer online and telephone counselling throughout the UK.
Life has many challenges. When we are struggling it is okay to seek help. I am here to listen and support you. I offer a safe space where together we can explore what is going on, assist you gain awareness into what's troubling you and look at what you would like to be different. My aim is that you will feel heard and understood on your journey of self-discovery.
I offer a chance to reflect on the difficulties or problems you are experiencing in a safe and confidential environment, with someone from outside your day-to-day life. Together we can explore your situation in a way that leads to fresh perspectives - and perhaps a new understanding of yourself. Counselling isn’t about giving you solutions or advice, but empowering you to make your own changes.
I enjoy working with people from all walks of life and backgrounds, who come to me with a diverse range of problems. As a fully-qualified Counsellor, I am a member of both the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and the Association of Christians in Counselling and Linked Professions, and abide by their code of ethics.
Counselling takes place in a safe space, where you can meet with someone who will listen with sensitivity and empathy - and without judgement. In the therapy space thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and in confidence.
Is life feeling just too much to cope with right now? Perhaps you are struggling with grief following a bereavement or another form of loss. Maybe you're feeling anxious, depressed or overwhelmed. Could something from your past be impacting on how you are feeling? Counselling gives us a set of tools we can use to help gain a better understanding of what's causing your problems and how you can move towards managing or resolving them.
Working together I can help you gain greater insight into the difficulties you are facing, help you understand why you act or react to them the way you do, and see how you can start to make better, heathier choices moving forward.

As I appreciate it can seem overwhelming when looking for a counsellor especially if this is the first time you have considered counselling. Therefore, to help I offer an initial 30-minute session where we can discuss why you are considering counselling, how you hope it will help and get a sense of whether we feel we will be able to work together. There will be no charge for this initial session.
Please note that if you want to cancel an appointment, I require 48 hours' notice; otherwise, you will still need to pay for any sessions missed. I accept payment by bank transfer.
